    Jackie Wolcott,
U.S. Representative for Special Political Affairs
to the United Nations
 
    Jackie Wolcott was nominated by President Bush in January, 2006 and confirmed by the Senate on February 16, 2006 to serve as Ambassador and Alternate United States Representative in the United Nations for Special Political Affairs. Ambassador Sanders' primary duties involve representing the United States on issues in the UN Security Council.
 
    Prior to her appointment, Ms. Wolcott served as Ambassador and United States Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva and as Special Representative of the President of the United States for the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

delegation to the First Committee (Disarmament and International Security) of the United Nations General Assembly and had lead responsibility for U.S. participation in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) review process. Ambassador Wolcott was also accredited to the, International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors in Vienna, leading the U.S. negotiating team to the September and November 2004, and February and June 2005 Board meetings.
Prior to this, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs from 2001 to 2003, with broad responsibility for foreign policy development and multilateral negotiations within the United Nations system.
Ambassador Wolcott has served more than 20 years in the federal government career, including nine years on Capitol Hill (Senate and House). She has held several positions relating to national security affairs, including: previous service as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State (1990-1993); Associate Director for National Security in the Office of Presidential Personnel, The White House (1987-1989); White House Liaison for the Department of State (1985-1987); and Special Assistant for Congressional Affairs in the Bureau of Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs, Department of State (1984-1985).
Ambassador Wolcott is a graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
